The R 18 Dragster by Roland Sands Design

Roland Sands is known for his daring designs with sports racing influences. He combines styles and knows no limits. When modifying the R 18, he draws inspiration from his father’s drag racing days: He reduces the mighty cruiser to the essentials and gears it up for maximum speed on straight roads. The result is a straight-line dragster with an iconic boxer engine – the R 18 Dragster.

New paint colours.
Update to the existing range of colours form BMW Motorrad.

BMW Motorrad is freshening up the standard colours on numerous models. But the BMW Motorrad Spezial colours are equally surprising with effective colour combinations that make your bike look even more unique. Here is an overview of the highlights.

Works of art on two wheels.
Customizers transform bikes into unique items.

He is an originator, a designer, an aesthete: the customizer gives the standard motorcycle an unmistakeable face and a soul. Each and every one of his creations is a work of art. New colours, new shapes. Other materials, other mechanics. It attracts all the looks and makes your heart beat faster.

Not another boxer.
Hide Motorcycle shapes the R nineT into sporting equipment.

The fact that Hideya Togashi calls his R nineT a plain and simple Boxer is an excessive understatement. Because the custom bike in the seventies racing look is neither plain nor simple. An inventory.

Pure fashion.
Experience the new LNLA brand.

Style is about individuality and nonconformity. No constraints, no limits. That feeling is what the new LNLA fashion label represents: Limits No Longer Apply – inspired by BMW Motorrad.

Propellant for your soul.
R nineT modifications from the most renowned customizers.

The R nineT is the perfect basis for an individual modification: in just a few short steps, its rear end transforms from a two-seater to a solo, and thanks to the separation between vehicle and engine electronics, gearheads have practically no limits in terms of what they can do. The most widely renowned customizers have run riot on the R nineT. With their unmistakable signatures, they show what can be done with expertise and the modern classic boxer. Curtains up for the Soulfuel bikes!

Bavarian combiners in Italy.
Curtains up for the BMW Motorrad Concept 9cento.

It's the stage for aesthetics, elegance and timeless design: at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, unforgotten motorcycle classics stand alongside new concept vehicles and win over the hearts of the audience. The perfect place to introduce new ideas and designs at the traditional event. Showtime for the world premier of the BMW Motorrad Concept 9cento.

Soul-searching in the metal.
A futuristic work of art from Blechmann.

Bernhard Naumann is also known as the Tin Man in the customising scene. He primarily creates sheet metal parts for custom bikes that are reminiscent of futuristic art. When he gets an R nineT, he does precisely what shouldn't be done.

I chase excitement.
Curiosity and enthusiasm are what drive Isaac Johnston.

He's his own boss. Years ago, Isaac Johnston traded his office job for a life as a storyteller and lifestyle photographer. Today, the American from Montana lives for unexpected experiences and loves exciting and inspiring places. Above all, nature holds a special allure for him.

The city at your feet.
The BMW Motorrad Concept Link takes new, connected paths.

Big city. Endless urban canyons, among which there is something new to discover around every bend. But it is also the desire for movement, freedom and the possibility to get from one place to the next quickly. With the Concept Link, which BMW Motorrad will be unveiling at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017, a concept vehicle has now set about to combine the challenges of urban mobility of tomorrow with the opportunities of a digitalised world.

Crafting a feeling.
The BMW Motorrad design process.

Striking characters work in the BMW Motorrad design team. Every designer has their own style and feels at home in their own biker scene. And each and every one of them adds their own inspiration and passion. These different forms are then combined in the design process: they are manifested in each new BMW Motorrad creation. Edgar Heinrich, head designer at BMW Motorrad, introduces the BMW Motorrad design team and the design process.

Riding on air.
BMW Motorrad and LEGO Technic build the Hover Ride concept model.

Pushing boundaries has always been a part of BMW Motorrad. The future of mobility is full of surprises – as can be seen from the floating boxer. A construction kit was the start.

A look at the next 100 years
What will the motorcycle of the future look like?

The 100th anniversary of the BMW Group is an opportunity to look back at the historic early days of the motorised two-wheeler and ahead to the future, where the role of the motorcycle will be completely redefined in an increasingly digital world.

It's the 7th of March, 1916. Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG (Bavarian Aircraft Works) begins operations on Lerchenauer Strasse in the north of Munich. Three years later, Zeno Diemer sets the world altitude record of 9,760 metres with the BMW IV six-cylinder inline aircraft engine.

The small factory will later go on to reach new heights in other vehicle segments. Soon after changing its name to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the company begins developing the first motorcycle, long before it enters the automobile sector.

Vision Vehicles circle the globe.

After making its world debut at the Centenary Event on 7 March, the BMW VISION NEXT 100 concept car embarks on a symbolic world tour to China, the UK and the US, where the motorcycle of the future is unveiled in a grand finale. The theme of the tour: "Iconic Impulses. The BMW Group Future Experience". As a visionary, the BMW Group is exploring the opportunities of digitalisation and the impact of technology on our private and professional lives.

From Munich, the BMW VISION NEXT 100 travels to Beijing for its Asia debut. Vision Vehicles from MINI and Rolls-Royce debut in London.

The final highlight is the world debut of the BMW Motorrad Vision Vehicle in Los Angeles on 11 October. The motorcycle of the future begins to take shape even before it is actually unveiled.

Four Visions. Four Vision Vehicles.
In its anniversary year, the BMW Group looks ahead: what do the vehicles of the future look like?

Over the course of the year, four vision vehicles give you an appetite for what is in store. The BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad brands paint a visionary picture of the future mobility world. BMW Motorrad rounds this all off splendidly by presenting a visionary motorcycle in Santa Monica in October.

There was an inspirational preview of the futuristic designs at the festive opening event for the anniversary year in the Munich Olympiahalle. At the big birthday celebration, the first of a total of four Vision Vehicles were unveiled. The BMW brand got the ball rolling and demonstrated what mobility will feel like in the coming decades with the world premier of the futuristic car BMW VISION NEXT 100. The curtains for the remaining Vision Vehicles will be opened over the coming months.

The Great Escape.
VISION NEXT 100: The motorcycle of the future.

Glasses in place of a helmet, smart clothing, full balance without a kickstand: Only three of the many inventions that could become standards for riding a motorcycle and add a new dimension to the sense of freedom in an increasingly digitised world. And the best thing about it: this vision vehicle is already here. Introducing the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100.

On tour with the R nineT Scrambler. We have come visit real men who do their own thing and in addition love motorcycles.Driven by their passion, they make their own rules instead of just following trends. Always searching for inspiration and new experiences.

"A routine day is definitely not for me."
Interview with customizer Hayden Roberts.

Hayden Roberts lives in Long Beach, California. Here, he co-founded the renowned customizing workshop Hell On Wheels MC. This is also where the name for his vintage motorcycle race came from – all over the world. Because when Hayden is not tinkering with bikes, he is organising races. And because these are always just one big party, he is also known as "Chief Party Planner". A born entertainer and absolutely obsessed with motorcycles – a magnificent mix.

The BMW S 1000 R Custom.
Presented by BMW Motorrad and Orlando Bloom.

Munich/Los Angeles: Many people know Orlando Bloom as a successful actor. And expect all the glamour that goes along with being a Hollywood star. But not many people know about his other big passion: motorcycles. As a long-time fan of BMW motorcycles, Orlando Bloom owns and rides a number of BMW models, including some old classics.

Back to the future with Cherry's Highway Fighter.

When Jeff Wright from Church of Choppers converts a bike, only the essence remains. His version of the R nineT once again proves his extraordinary artistic talent.

Relax or Race.
With the Clubman Racer from 46Works.

An evening spin off into the mountains and a Sunday afternoon out on the race track – the Japanese Shiro Nakajima had specific ideas of what he wanted to do with his R nineT conversion. With the Clubman Racer, he created an all-rounder entirely according to his own taste. And nevertheless meets the taste of the scene.

Born on an island.
R nineT Scrambler from Heiwa.

The first meeting of Kengo Kimura and the R nineT Scrambler is like an awkward blind date, but the motorcycle quickly wins over the Japanese's affection – and the owner from Heiwa gives the bike the look of its home.

The shimmering 70's.
A motorbike journey through time with Hell on Wheels MC.

The R nineT Scrambler by Hayden Roberts revives the 70s with plenty of flair and attention to detail, giving even the customizer the experience of a special motorcycle journey through time.

40 years of adventure
Four decades of GS

Ready for any challenge: Since 1980, the GS has stood for limitless adventure and curiosity, both on and off the road. 40 years ago, we presented the R 80 G/S for the first time as the conceptual pioneer of touring enduros, which laid the foundation for a decades-long success story. We are celebrating this anniversary with the special editions of our versatile GS models. The 40 Years GS editions are each a homage to the #SpiritOfGS. They boast state-of-the-art technology, but their design is inspired by the legendary R 100 GS and reminds us of the origins of the GS.

Defined strength in a straight line
The R 18 Dragster by Roland Sands Design

Roland Sands is known for his daring designs with sports racing influences. He combines styles and knows no limits. When modifying the R 18, he draws inspiration from his father’s drag racing days: He reduces the mighty cruiser to the essentials and gears it up for maximum speed on straight roads. The result is a straight-line dragster with an iconic boxer engine – the R 18 Dragster.

On the road.
On the road with the R nineT Scrambler.

Rediscover the darkness.
The 9 Tracker opens eyes.

Large quantities of black powder coating cover the 9 Tracker in a black robe. Those wishing to understand the motorcycle from Blitz Motorcycles must approach it like a masterpiece.

With balled fists.
The Bavarian Fistfighter from Rough Crafts.

Made in Taiwan as a quality feature: customizer Winston Yeh creates motorcycles that awaken desires all over the world. His signature: clean, harmonious, black. Just like the R nineT conversion Bavarian Fistfighter.

Dirt Track Vibes.
The Cyclone from BratStyle.

Bratty’s R nineT is living up to its name, Cyclone, and kicking up a great deal of dust. Customizer Go Takamine proves once more the uniqueness of the Brat Style he created. Dirt-Track-Vibes on. Pure Soulfuel.

Get up and go.
Back to the future with Cherry's Highway Fighter.

Of all things, the BMW R 7 from 1934 was used by customizer Kaichiroh Kurosu as inspiration for a futuristic bike called Highway Fighter. R nineT with the futuristic look, made by Cherry's Company.

Spring clean.
A minimalist from the Church of Choppers.
